This tasty Indian Sambar can be homemade and is very healthy! It's perfect with all types of foods for ex.plain rice,idli,and even pongal!This is perfect to brighten up your day!Its made of lentils and vegetables.
Oil- 2 tbsp
Toor Dhal -1 cup
Carrots- 1 cut in circles
Onion- 1 cut into small cubes
Green Chilies- 2 slices
Tomato- 2 medium sized cut into pieces
Drum sticks(optional)- 6 frozen pieces
Cilantro- 4 stems
Red chilies powder- 1 teaspoon
Salt- 2 spoon(add if its needed)
Coriander powder- 2 tbsp
Black pepper powder- 1 spoon
Tamrind- 4 tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
Hing- 1/4 spoon
Red chilies- 2
Curry leaves- l strand
Uraddal- 1/2 tsp
Channadal- 1/2 tsp
1.Pressure cook the toordal with 1-3 cups of water
2.Take a pan and add oil then add mustard seeds splutter and add cumin seeds.
3.Then add urad and chennadhal ,and red chilies along with curry leaves.
4.Now add the onion and fry it till it looks translucent,and add all the vegetables
5.Cook until tender and add salt
6.Then add tamarind juice
7.Boil it for 5 min turn the flame to low
8.Smash the boiled dhal and add it to the cooked vegetables
9.Next add 1 cup of water and add coriander powder,pepper powder,and coriander leaves
10.Boil for 5 minutes
11.Serve with hot rice and with papads or chips
NOTE:You can use any vegetables as your choice.Adjust spice & salt according to your taste.If you don't have have tamarind you can use lemon juice (use 1/2 lemons).
